Ambuja Neotia Group, a leading business conglomerate in East India, announced an investment of over Rs 15,000 crore in West Bengal over the next five years, unveiling a diversified development programme across multiple sectors. Group chairman Harshavardhan Neotia made the announcement while speaking at the 8th Bengal Global Business Summit inauguration on 5 February 2025.

The investments will span healthcare, hospitality, tourism, residential and commercial real estate, and a golf-themed township. The group will invest Rs 6,500 crore in residential and commercial real estate, delivering 10.5 million sq.ft. of built space over the next four to five years.

Healthcare expansion with five hospitals

The group will invest Rs 1,500 crore in healthcare, setting up five new hospitals across the state, adding 1,300 beds. Ambuja Neotia will be setting up five new hospitals across West Bengal—three in Kolkata, one in Durgapur, and one in Siliguri, with two hospitals already under construction and the remaining three set to commence work within the year.

Taj Hotels luxury circuit

In hospitality and tourism, Rs 2,700 crore will be invested to develop a luxury hospitality circuit with Taj Hotels, featuring seven premium hotels and two convention hotels in Kolkata and Siliguri, adding 1,400 rooms. The Group plans to develop a luxury hospitality circuit in partnership with the Taj Hotels, featuring seven premium hotels in key destinations such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Lataguri (Dooars), Digha, the Sundarbans, Shantiniketan, and Raichak.

International-standard golf township

A golf-themed township, Bengal's first international-standard golf township, will see an investment of Rs 5,000 crore. The 240-acre project will include an 18-hole golf course, villas, apartments, a golf hotel, and other amenities.

Developer context and footprint

The Ambuja Neotia Group is one of Kolkata's most respected and reputed corporate houses and is spearheaded by Harshvardhan Neotia. The Group has interests in real estate, healthcare and hospitality. Several landmark Ambuja Neotia projects have been developed in and around Kolkata including the city's first condoville project called Udayan, the pioneering City Centre mall that redefined retail in the city and Ffort Raichak which was the first luxury weekend getaway in the city. The Group has also developed the Bhagirathi Neotia Woman & Child Care Centre in the city in addition to the landmark EcoSpace business park.

In 2009, the group merged Ambuja with the illustrious Neotia family name to create Ambuja Neotia. In healthcare, they established Neotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital, and Genome, a fertility clinic. In a strategic move to enhance its presence in the hospitality sector, Ambuja Neotia has recently expanded its geographic footprint by acquiring the Tree of Life Hotel and Resorts chain.

Strategic context

Neotia expressed gratitude to the state government for fostering a business-friendly environment, highlighting West Bengal's strategic advantages, including its skilled workforce, growing infrastructure, and proximity to Asian markets. Bengal has always been the Group's home and karmabhoomi, and the projects will create new opportunities, enhance infrastructure, and strengthen Bengal's position as a business and tourism hub.

The announcement comes as the Bengal Global Business Summit saw Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani declaring his group's intent to invest Rs 50,000 crore in West Bengal by the end of the decade, underscoring the state's emergence as a major investment destination.
