AMBUJA TAJ RESORT SUNDERBAN — New Project Coming Up in South 24 Parganas, Sundarbans

New Taj Resort Coming to Sundarbans

Ambuja Neotia Group and IHCL have announced Ambuja Taj Resort Sunderban, a new luxury property in South 24 Parganas, positioned as part of a broader hospitality expansion across East India. The resort is among 15 new properties that include a Taj resort in Sunderban, Darjeeling, Shimla, and Rabong, alongside SeleQtions hotels in Kolkata and Siliguri, and a Tree of Life in Lataguri.

Developer and Partnership

Ambuja Neotia is one of the leading developers in India with 36 residential and commercial projects in its portfolio, with operations concentrated in West Bengal, Siliguri, Durgapur, and other eastern cities. The company has established a long partnership with IHCL (Indian Hotels Company Limited), Tata Group's hospitality arm. This expansion, based on a capital-light model, will push the number of collaborative projects between IHCL and Ambuja Neotia to more than 40 hotels.

Sundarbans and the Region

South 24 Parganas is the largest district of West Bengal by area and second largest by population. On one side of the district there is the urban fringe of Kolkata, and on the other the remote riverine villages in the Sundarbans. Sundarbans National Park, established in 1984, is a national park and core part of tiger reserve and biosphere reserve.

The location offers strategic positioning for heritage and nature tourism. Traditional fairs, festivals, and cuisine attract tourism especially in the Sundarban area, which acts as a livelihood opportunity, while Sundarban catches attention as a tourist spot for its natural appeal.

Expansion Timeline

Of the 15 new properties, four are currently under construction and will be built over the next three years. The Group plans to develop a luxury hospitality circuit in partnership with Taj Hotels, featuring seven premium hotels in key destinations such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Lataguri, Digha, the Sundarbans, Shantiniketan, and Raichak, which will add 600 five-star rooms.

Ambuja Neotia's Hospitality Track Record

Under Harshavardhan Neotia's leadership, the Group ventured into real estate and hospitality with projects including Udayan and the hospitality project Raichak-on-Ganges, which covered 100 acres. Taj Ganga Kutir Resort & Spa, located in Raichak along the banks of the Bay of Bengal, in partnership with Ambuja Neotia, unfolds across a sprawling 100-acre riverfront sanctuary.
